For almost a year now, the artist Gao Zhen (Gao Brothers) is being held in prison in China for his art.
He didn’t have a trial yet. Instead he is being forced to sign a confession-of-guilt. 
Gao Zhen (criticizing Mao by his satirical artworks) is not guilty. His father disappeared and died in the Cultural Revolution raids by Mao‘s Red Army who terrorized the Chinese people in the 1960th. So, Gao Zhen will never sign a confession-of-guilt. This puts him in danger of a severe punishment and sentencing as a scapegoat to frighten all artists in China. 

The newest development (July 2025）is as follows:

The Gao Zhen case has entered the court prosecution stage. The new attorney is the renowned lawyer, who previously served as Liu Xiaobo’s defense lawyer. - So, that now that it has reached the court stage, there is an urgent need for international public opinion support, striving for intensive coverage from international media and self-media, calling for Gao Zhen’s release.

WE THEREFORE ARE CALLING ON YOU, THE PUBLIC, TO SUPPORT GAO ZHEN AND SIGN THIS PETITION FOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS, FOR FREEDOM OF CULTURE - AND SAVE THE LIFE OF this internationally acclaimed artist.
