Yesterday, it was announced that “Empire” is renewed for Season 6. Along with this news came this statement from 20th Century Fox:

"By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire," (link). 

While simply reading the headlines going around will make you believe it's been announced he will not be back in the new season, reading the actual statement simply says there are no plans for his character's return at this time even though his contract has been extended for Season 6. This means we have to push this petition even harder now that we know his contract has been extended and there is still an opportunity for his return.

A rep for Jussie added:

"We've been told Jussie will not be on Empire in the beginning of the season but he appreciates they have extended his contract to keep Jamal’s future open. Most importantly he is grateful to Fox and Empire leadership, cast, crew and fans for their unwavering support," (link).

Let’s continue to #StandWithJussie and make it clear that we want him back on the show in Season 6.
