Founding a Mental Health Resource Center at UCSD

Founding a Mental Health Resource Center at UCSD
The Issue
UCSD'S Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is inefficient and only focuses on crisis management. We all know CAPS offers long waits, very short-term help, and suffers under its outrageous lack of resources (1 psychiatrist for every 18,000 students).
The Student Collective for Mental Health (SCMH) is lobbying the administration in an attempt to establish an official Mental Health Resource Center (MHRC), which will focus on day-to-day, low-scale management of mental health.
We will provide: quiet study areas, de-stressing events, education on mental illnesses/disabilities/health issues, peer seminars on coping mechanisms for things like dealing with panic attacks and time management, and community building to create a network of accountability and solidarity. The MHRC is not a psychiatric center or a therapist's office, but rather an attempt to provide for the holistic aspects of mental healthcare that prescriptions don't cover. We want to help anyone who needs a little support with daily management of their mental health, whether they're having a good day or a bad day.
Help us create a place on campus that will act as a powerful advocacy group and a force working to make a happier, healthier environment at UCSD. Every signature counts.
