FORTISBC: It’s time for HONEST, TRANSPARENT PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
Please sign this petition to show that you want a transparent and open public engagement session with public Q&A and NOT the open house format favored by Fortis.
FortisBC have submitted a TUP (Temporary Use Permit) to Squamish District Council to construct a worker’s camp at Quest University and a construction laydown yard behind Valleycliffe.
This was presented to council on Feb 14th after which there will be an opportunity for public engagement. The date of this has been confirmed:
- Thursday March 9th
- 6-8pm
- Howe Sounds Secondary School
Historically FortisBC have tried to control the narrative at public engagement session with limited dialogue forcing community members to ask the right questions with no requirement on FortisBC to openly share information and provide updates.
WE CAN AND MUST CHANGE THIS APPROACH.
The residents of Squamish deserve an open and transparent public engagement session with dialogue from FortisBC leadership (presentation style) followed by an open questions and answer session to elevate the issues and ensure everyone understands the impacts of the proposals and can voice their concerns.
If you have already attended an open house, you will know these are contrived and lack openness and true community engagement. A room of posters and tables is simply not good enough.
Please sign this petition to show that you want a transparent and open public engagement session with public Q&A and NOT the open house format favored by FortisBC.
On June 6th, 2022, we were able to change the narrative and force FortisBC to change their approach; together we can do it again.
The outcome of this survey will be shared with MP Patrick Weiler, MLA Jordan Sturdy, the BC Environmental Assessment Office, District of Squamish,Council and FortisBC.
Thanks for your support
