Removal of Robert E. Lee bust in downtown Fort Myers

Removal of Robert E. Lee bust in downtown Fort Myers
The Issue
In downtown Fort Myers on Monroe street is a bust depicting Robert E. Lee. For those of you who do not know Robert E. Lee was the confederate general during the civil war. Lee fought for slavery. The bust has currently been removed by the sons of confederate “veteran” clubs for safe keeping. For those of you who do not know the sons of confederate “veteran” club is a male only group with bloodline to former confederate soldiers. The groups main goal is to keep the confederacy alive and to celebrate the men who fought against human rights. The club has full intention to put the statue back. They even donated it to the city to begin with. This petition it to entirely remove the bust from the city of Fort Myers. Robert E. Lee is not a man who should be glorified with statues of any kind he fought to keep slavery alive in the United States and nothing else. There was a Robert E. Lee mosaic in downtown Fort Myers as well that was made on a building owned by the bank. The bank has chosen to paint over the mosaic and plans to leave it that way. There is no room for hate in our country.
