Fort Braden-Save The Live Oak Tree

The Issue

This petition seeks urgent action to prevent the proposed demolition of the oak tree located at the former Old Fort Braden School at 16387 Blountstown Highway. The destruction of the oak tree is proposed by Duke Energy for the construction of transmission lines. In 1926 The old Fort Braden Elementary school was constructed to the new Ft. Braden K-8 School. The proposed destruction of the 96 year old live oak tree is located on the historic site which was added to the US. National Registry of Historic places on April 14, 1994. In which shows poor judgement and atrocious stewardship of the overall environment and quality of life as a cruel disregard of the worth, value, and dignity of a mature, beautiful tree, which cannot be replaced. We already have lost so many trees coming down for this project, and there are many that care for not just this specific tree, but in Tallahassee, just like what happened at Cascades Park and Canopy Subdivision and that we need to stop this and preserve these trees for the environment! There are so many benefits, our kids would play and climb them, it gives us shade in the hot summer months, also having a live oak nearby is good protection for hurricane damage.
