The Issue
Having spent years immersed in the diverse industries that fuel our local economy in Pembrokeshire and its neighboring areas, I have witnessed firsthand the immense struggles and pressures we face. Like many, I experienced burnout, leading to a two-year battle with mental health issues. This left me unable to work and without sufficient support from overburdened public services. Faced with a nine-month waiting period for help, the GP could only suggest charities, as the system was overwhelmed. It is time to forge a path toward community-focused solutions.
This petition calls for the formation of a charity named 'Dda Good Hwb', aiming to transform lives in Pembrokeshire's rural communities. Our goal is to establish communal hubs and projects that empower individuals, boost small businesses, uplift creative minds, and support local producers of food and other essential goods. By creating a network where people can work together, support one another, and grow as a community, we aim to tackle pressing issues such as rural isolation, poverty, homelessness, and environmental impact.
'Reforming the communal landscape' is not merely rhetoric, it is a necessity. Statistically, rural communities face higher incidences of poverty and decreased access to vital services. The BBC reports that almost 1 in 5 people in the UK live in poverty, with those in rural areas being disproportionately affected. Furthermore, according to Mind, a mental health charity, individuals in rural settings often encounter more significant barriers to accessing mental health support.
'Dda Good Hwb' would address these challenges by focusing efforts on job creation and providing relief for overtaxed health and public services. We envision a society where health, collaboration, and sustainability are prioritized, creating a self-sufficient and flourishing community.
Your support can bring about these critical changes. By signing this petition, you stand with us in the mission to build a resilient community infrastructure that is equipped to nurture its citizens. Let us create places that foster creativity, economic stability, and social connection. Help us turn this vision of 'Dda Good Hwb' into reality and be part of the change our rural communities desperately need.
