Ford, GM, Nissan, Stellantis Bring Your Midsize Truck Based SUVs to North American Markets
The Issue
The only midsize truck based SUV sold in North American markets today is the Toyota 4Runner, there’s also the Jeep Wrangler, the Ford Bronco, and the Toyota Land Cruiser. I know that most full size pickup trucks have SUV counterparts. I know that the Jeep Wrangler, the Ford Bronco, and the Toyota Land Cruiser are body on frame but they’re not actual SUV counterparts of midsize pickup trucks and that’s the main reason why I’m doing this and I know that some people would want a midsize SUV on a truck platform. I know that not everyone on the market for a truck based body on frame SUV would need and/or want a full size Tahoe or Expedition, they may want something that’s more affordable, more maneuverable, easier to park, better fuel economy, and still want good enough 4x4 capability and towing capacity. Another reason the topic is crucial because for older people who need a vehicle that sits high off the ground but not too long and wide and even crossover SUVs can be too low for some older people. A lot of times, a full size Tahoe or Expedition would be too long and wide for these people because eventually, their driving skills would slowly start to go down and manipulating such a large vehicle would become extremely difficult so having traditional truck based body on frame midsize SUVs would be great.
Here’s what all of these midsize body on frame SUVs that need to be sold in North American markets: Ford Everest, Chevrolet Blazer T, GMC Jimmy, Nissan Xterra, Jeep Commander, and RAM Dakota Charger. All of these models will compete directly with the Toyota 4Runner.
All of these models that I mentioned will be actual SUV counterparts of midsize pickup trucks which means they’ll have a permanent top and doors, a more traditional SUV shape, and share components with their pickup truck variants, and here’s what features all of these models need to have standard; reclining second row seats, and an independent rear suspension to enable fold flat seats. Here’s what these models should have available; third row seating, sliding second row seats, and a power lift gate. Some of these models should have long wheelbase length variants because I know that some full size body on frame SUVs have multiple wheelbase length variants and I know that midsize body on frame SUVs should have it as well.
Toyota 4Runner sales are rising immensely so that’s one reason. Also, not everyone needs and/or wants a removable top and doors and these people prefer quiet cabins so that’s another reason why traditional truck based midsize SUVs need to sold in North American markets.
