I’ve been a casual Twitter user for a couple of years now. I primarily used the app to keep up with gaming new’s, content creator’s and a handful of other thing’s. I never really had a problem with the platform. I didn’t care about the whole Elon Musk takeover, or the addition of paid for verified account’s. That’s not what this is about. This is about an issue that has been plaguing this platform for a very long time, child pornography. 

I was unaware of the magnitude of this issue until a few days ago. I was browsing Twitter when I stumbled onto the latest tab. I viewed one of the most disturbing video’s I ever seen in my life. It was a video of a very young child that was being molested. I will not go into any further detail. I’m extremely disturbed and sickened by what I saw. I cannot un-see the horror’s of what was done to that innocent child. I reported it immediately and logged off the app for the day. I managed to suppress the memory of the video, that was until I was on Twitter again today and once again witnessed another disturbing video, this time on the recent tab. Why are these post’s of children getting past content filter’s and able to be seen by anyone? This is just wrong and I feel viscerally sick after witnessing what I have. Just knowing what happened in those video. Those poor children have already been taken advantage of, and now they’re being glorified by other pedophiles who wish to spread the video’s furthermore. It’s not fair to the children. This topic make’s me extremely angry to the point of shaking. I decided instead of just reporting this post and suppressing the memory I would take action’s to force Twitter to fix this issue.

I’m realizing that just because you don’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not an issue. It’s a VERY big issue. Just because you haven’t witnessed it first hand doesn’t mean it’s not happening. I have witnessed it, and I’m infuriated that nothing has been done to protect minor’s on this platform. There seem’s to be no precaution’s put in place to prevent the post’s from being made. I’m sure these post’s are quickly removed but by the time the post is removed people will have already been scarred by it and pedophiles will have already saved it. I’ve been scarred deeply by what I’ve seen. PLEASE DO NOT SEEK OUT ANY OF THESE POST’S. 

Please join me by signing this petition and stand up for the helpless victim’s that are too young to understand what is happening to them. Twitter must be held accountable for these post’s and make meaningful change’s to protect our children. It is NOT okay. It is not a safe platform for kid’s and no adult should be subjected to viewing what I saw. I will offer two solution’s that can be used to better protect minor’s on Twitter. Please understand that I am not an expert on how social media work’s. I am just an individual trying to make a difference in protecting our kid’s. 

Solution 1: Impose a pending period for post’s made by new account’s, filter’s that will flag post’s before they are made live, filter’s for external links, remove the latest tab, and legal ramification’s for people who post child pornography.

My first solution for this problem is to force Twitter to add a pending period for post’s being made by new account’s. This pending period will be used to review the post and the account being used. During this pending period Some type of AI can flag post’s for manual review if it detect’s anything suspicious before it’s made live. Also, there need’s to be some type of system that detect’s key words used in these post’s to flag them for review before they are posted. 

Filter’s for external link’s on these post’s and account’s need to be put in place. Both post’s I witnessed had link’s to website’s such as Dropbox and other unknown site’s that I presume contained more child pornography. Post with link’s to uncommon website’s need to be reviewed before being allowed to be posted. An AI can review this by searching the site for key word’s and number’s. Account’s flagged with bad link’s need to be investigated immediately. 

I’ve also recognized that the latest post tab contain’s a bulk of the child pornography. This is because every time you refresh the latest tab it show’s you what was posted that very second. This tab need’s to be disabled to prevent more people from viewing these post’s before they are removed from Twitter. It may be an inconvenience to some, but it is worth it to protect the children being shown in these post’s. 

Lastly, there need’s to be some type of deterrent to stop these pedophile’s from making post’s. Some type of legal repercussion’s should be set in place. I don’t know how Twitter currently handles account’s that post child pornography. I hope to god they report each and every case to the FBI but sadly I doubt they do. Twitter need’s to set clear rule’s that outline the ramification’s of posting such content and take action against account’s that violate these rule’s.

solution 2: Ban all pornographic material from Twitter. 

This solution is a much more extreme approach but if it will protect minor’s then Twitter should ban all pornographic material from their site. All content filter’s would have to do is recognize nudity and deny the post from ever being made. Not many people will agree with this but what’s more important, your porn or the protection of minor’s. If you think porn is more important than protecting kid’s then you need to rethink your moral’s. There are other adult website’s you can use for viewing porn, you don’t need porn on Twitter. 

This approach will probably be the cheapest and easiest method to prevent this issue, however I still believe Twitter would need to remove the latest tab for this solution to truly work. If these post’s are able to be made live, the issue will persist. It does not matter if the post’s are removed after it’s been posted. I’ll repeat it again, By the time the post is removed people will have already been scarred by it and pedophiles will have already saved it. 

Conclusion

Please consider signing this petition and sharing it with anyone you know. Take what action’s you can to protect the children who have already been sexually abused. Don’t let their abuse be glorified by other sick minded people. I will not support a platform that has this kind of an issue, so I will also be deactivating my two personal Twitter account’s immediately.
