Force Roblox to remove its age verification for chatting update
The Issue
Imagine a world where your child, immersed in a seemingly safe digital playground, is suddenly cut off from their friends and more vulnerable to unseen predators. That is the reality with Roblox's recent update requiring age verification for chat.
This update is supposed to protect children, yet ironically it creates more risks. As a parent, guardian, or user of Roblox, you might feel this seemingly simple safety measure adds an unnecessary layer of vulnerability. By centralizing sensitive data like children's facial recognition information through Persona, this update risks exposing this sensitive information to potential breaches. Hackers and predators could exploit these databases, exposing potentially millions of children's faces and personal information.
Furthermore, the update fails to safeguard children from determined predators. An individual could easily purchase an account registered as under 13 from the black market and manipulate children into moving their interactions onto less monitored platforms like Discord or Telegram - platforms notorious for lacking actual child safeguarding measures.
This endangers children's online safety more than protects it. The safety and security of young users must be a priority, and there are more effective ways to achieve this.
We propose that Roblox immediately remove the age verification for chat and instead actually hire human moderators. Educating children, parents, and the community about the signs of predator behavior can enforce a safer online environment.
Our children deserve a secure, inclusive, and fun experience on platforms like Roblox, free from fear and inaccessible barriers. It's time to tell Roblox to reconsider this detrimental update and invest in real solutions that protect our young users.
If you want to take it to the next level, you can try your best to boycott Roblox! It is extremely simple, all you need to do is 2 steps.
- Cancel any Roblox Premium and/or in-game subscriptions you have. If you have any Robux left, do not spend it.
- This part might be the most difficult, but hey, we all have to leave stuff behind sometimes. Quit Roblox, it's that simple. If you want, you can tell your friends you are quitting Roblox, but I don't recommend it, cause it can make them feel sad and/or angry. Good luck if you are doing this step!
