Every day infants and pets are maimed or killed after getting caught under a recliner, especially electric recliners. Many times these incidents cause slow and painful amputations or death. Most families own at least one recliner and have children or pets. Every day a child or pet gets caught under these chairs and these events are traumatic and often tragic to the entire family.

Below is a photo of our cat Polo.  His tail was caught in a spiraling footrest device under our new electric recliner/sofa for more than ten minutes. It was extremely difficult to get his tail unwound and released from the mechanism. He suffered terribly and our vet had to amputate most of his tail. Polo bit our son during the ordeal and our son had to be treated at the ER. Both are still recovering weeks later.

It is well past the time for all recliner manufacturers to design these chairs to be 100% child and pet friendly and safe. With some careful thought, this can be accomplished and save tens of thousands of families unnecessary trauma.
