Hi Folks,
today I draw attention to this story which underlines the total lack of accountability of Energy Companies, including Origin Energy!
It seems they like to keep money they are not entitled to keep! The following link is to a media story that recently outlined this, and a weak Government not willing to hold them to account. If this were me, or any one of you, we would be charged with a criminal offence.
In the mean time, I had recent contact with Origin over an extra large bill it sent me - well over $1,000, which is over double my usual bill... the story goes like this:
Origin sent this outrageous bill, and then sent a message to say they mucked up the bill by not providing certain information on it. So they re-sent it providing a revised 'due by' date.
5 days before the revised due by date, they start debt collecting by sending emails, tet messages, and calling me. So when I called them I spoke to a person in their debt collection section, who promised to get a 'supervisor' to call me back with in 48 hours to hear my complaint. Well, you guessed it, I was lied to yet again. No call in the past 5 days.
During my conversations with Origin by email, I now discover that they have had me on a more expensive plan - which they changed me to without my consent nor authority! It seems they have an 'opt out' procedure that is obscured by their fine print. This is in spite of my asking over several years about cheaper plans!
So here I am off to the so-called 'Energy Ombudsman', with a complex multi layered complaint.
IT'S DiSHONEST. IT'S UNCONSCIONABLE BEHAVIOUR. IT'S CRIMINAL!
I am willing to bet the Energy Ombudsman is not willing to do anything yet again in this case. They are nothing more than an Industry Funded Dispute Resolution Service, and they have absolutely no power what so ever. In fact, they are NOT an Ombudsman Service at all.
