Actualización de la peticiónForce Colorado Springs to Repair the Barr TrailTHE BARR TRAIL NEEDS WORK!
COS Land Swap
10 feb 2022

Hello,

Please tell me the estimated cost of all needed repairs to the section of the Barr Trail that the city acquired in the land swap with the Broadmoor Hotel in 2016.

Last fall the Colorado Springs Gazette initiated a public discussion about the fate of that section of the trail.

I have a right and a need to form my own opinion and to participate in the decision-making process.

I already had a need for this information because it was withheld from the public comment process in 2016.

Now there is a second justification for this information to be released publicly.

The city may not decide the fate of this trail without providing the public with all relevant information.

The city has owned this land for 5 full years.

Why are the necessary repairs not being done?

The city claims to be proud stewards of America's Mountain, why is the city being negligent?

Even if a new trail is built much of the needed repairs will still have to be done when the trail is closed.

The drainage work will have to be done, then the erosion damage on the hillside will have to be fixed.

If we decide to build a new trail it will not be available for several years.

The first two miles of the Barr Trail needs the drainage study and drainage work done ASAP.

Why has the city not even had the necessary drainage study done yet?

My petition alleges that the city will have to reverse the land swap if the public learns how much money the land we acquired from the Cog Railway needs.

Is that true?

Why does the city refuse to provide me with the cost of the needed repairs?

I am alleging that the cost of the needed repairs were not considered in the preparation of the appraisal for that land.

This is a serious allegation.

Was the cost of the repairs considered by the appraiser?

What number did they use?

Appraisals are strictly regulated, there can be no mistakes or omissions.

Even more so when publicly owned land is being swapped.

I am asking the Colorado Springs City Council or any one of its members to tell me:

The estimated cost of a drainage study on that land.

The estimated cost for the actual drainage work.

The total estimated cost for all needed repairs on that land.

Thank you, Carl Strow
