Dear supporters, First of all, I would like to thank you for your support. We gathered more than 300,000 signatures for this petition asking European leaders to officially recognize Ukraine as a candidate for EU membership. I remember when we launched it, people were saying it would take years for Ukraine to fill the criteria to become a candidate, European leaders were divided on the matter, and some didn't even want to address the topic. Yet, on June 23, 2022, the European Council officially granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the EU. There are many factors that prompted the European leaders to accelerate this process. Of course, the atrocious Russian war, and Ukraine's resistance, bravery, and resilience, which we all admire. The huge efforts made by Ukrainian officials and administration to convince all European leaders, meet all the criteria, fill all the forms, and adapt the Ukrainian legislation, even in the middle of the Russian invasion. But also the mobilization of public opinion and supporters like you. Without it, European leaders would not have understood that European citizens consider Ukrainians as their fellow Europeans and want them to join the European Union as soon as possible, therefore building a stronger EU together. Does it mean it's done already? Surely not. Official negotiations still haven't started yet, and we hope they will start soon. It's therefore very important that each of us keep pressuring European leaders to make sure they keep it on the top of their agenda. Once negotiations will start, it may still take some years, even if we hope it's going to be as fast as possible. This is a unique situation in History, so we must adapt and speed up processes. Of course, Ukraine must also win this war and the Russian army must leave the Ukrainian territory. The war and occupation of parts of Ukraine are still ongoing and we must increase our support, which is very much needed now. We should not let the Ukrainians down. So, please donate to Ukrainian organizations active in Ukraine. There are also other ways of supporting Ukraine and I want to highlight this campaign: https://www.change.org/BringBackUkrainianKids-FR Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 300,000 Ukrainian children have been abducted and deported to Russia. They are currently being held on Russian territory, without any guarantees or external controls on their living conditions. Some of them are deliberately separated from their parents by Russian authorities and have been adopted by Russian families. Therefore, this campaign urges the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, and the European Heads of State and Government to intervene and demand from Russia the release of the children and all deported Ukrainian civilians, and call on the relevant international organisations to visit these children and organise their repatriation to Ukraine. Supporting this campaign is another way of supporting Ukrainians, which is why I encourage all of you to visit the page and sign the petition if you agree. Once again, I want to thank you for your support for Ukraine and let's keep acting and supporting Ukrainians together!
