"Kathy's Kitchen with Kathy Hoshijo" (vegetarian cooking series) to be released on video.
The Issue
Aloha.
This is a petition to Kathy Hoshijo/Sunil Khemaney/Wai Lana, Inc. to digitize and release the 65 episodes of the vegetarian cooking series "Kathy's Kitchen with Kathy Hoshijo" on DVD.
Explanation:
For over 20 years, there have been many requests around the internet for the "Kathy's Kitchen" TV series to be made available.
"Kathy's Kitchen" was a cooking series that aired across the U.S. from 1980 to 1988 on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).
It was a very fine multi-camera TV cooking series with excellent production values, lighting and theme music - a beautiful presentation to behold.
The series host, Kathy Hoshijo, has a peaceful, soothing, ASMR-ish voice and delivery much like Bob Ross had on the Joy of Painting.
The series presented vegetarian recipes to an audience unfamilar with vegetarian cooking, explaining the various nutritional benefits of tofu and other vegetarian food sources.
Each episode ended with some "Food for Thought," a short philosophical reading to part company with the viewer.
In the same way that many viewers of Bob Ross' Joy of Painting series don't necessarily paint but instead watch purely for the peaceful ASMR-like feeling it bestows upon them,
many viewers who watch Kathy's Kitchen achieve the same tranquil feeling.
The series appeals to those interested in vegetarian cooking and would provide positive encouragement and educational value to those interested in switching to that way of life.
There is a ready-made audience of vegetarians and general viewers who may recall seeing the series on PBS back in the 1980s.
Recommended DVD configuration of the series:
There are 65 27-minute episodes in 5 series of 13 episodes each. Healthy's, Inc. is listed as the copyright owner of the series registered in 1990.
The series is distributed by the same company that distributes the Wai Lana Yoga series.
The opening titles could be trimmed to just the title cards if the Eddie Hansen slide guitar theme music is not clearable.
Each of 5 series of 13 episodes could be released on 2 DVDs per series, for 10-DVDs total as a set (priced at say $100 or so). Each 2-DVD series could be sold separately as well.
There should be 1 promotional or "best of" DVD with 2 episodes at a low price (like say $10) with these 2 specific "gateway" episodes:
502: Soy Friends 7/27/1985
605: A New Shape for Tofu 8/5/1986
The DVD sets could be sold at vegetarian community events such as the SoCalVegFest in Orange County, California.
The series could also be made available for download, for those who prefer that format.
Please sign the petition to convince the owners of this series that there is genuine interest in purchasing DVDs of this very fine cooking series.
The series needs to be made available to the widest possible audience and preserved for future generations of vegetarians.
This release would bring happiness, joy and contemplation to it's many viewers.
Thank you and mahalo.
