Dear Petitioners - what a great win!
Denmark Shire Council this evening, Tuesday 28 May, approved a new Local Planning Strategy that builds on the long neglected Sustainable Tourism Strategy and more. The nine tourism precincts we campaigned against have gone. Good on you!
Denmark has a new preferred direction for tourism: “sensitively designed ecotourism experiences” that go “beyond the traditional paradigm of sustainable development” and “embrace a regenerative approach that not only sustains existing resources, but also increases the health, function and capacity of our biodiversity, natural systems and local community”. Wow!
Do you like it? It means there's a good chance there'll be something of this wild, beautiful place left for our grandkids' grandkids.
We're not done yet. Lot 3 South Coast Highway is sitting with Hon Minister for Planning John Carey. We have a meeting with him at the end of June. So, we have about four weeks left to convince him to reject Amendment 147 and with it the rezoning of Lot 3 from rural to tourist.
