For a Fair Reform of the Eurovision Song Contest Voting System

Le problème

To the European Broadcasting Union (EBU),
and the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest,

As engaged viewers and voters, we wish to express our deep concern regarding the increasing unfairness of the current televoting system.

We specifically denounce:

  • The possibility to vote up to 20 times per phone number or device, which encourages massive and ideological voting campaigns,
  • The lack of a strict one-vote-per-person limitation, which severely distorts democratic representation,
  • The lack of transparency regarding the total number of voters, the geographic distribution of votes, and technical control mechanisms,
  • And above all, the feeling of being disenfranchised when a single, honest, artistic, and sincere vote is rendered meaningless in the face of politically motivated mass voting.

We believe this system undermines the original spirit of Eurovision Song Contest: celebrating the musical, cultural, and artistic diversity of Europe and beyond.

Therefore, we solemnly request:

  • A strict limitation of voting to one vote per person, to ensure genuine equality.
  • Transparent publication of the total number of votes, broken down by country and voting channel (app/SMS).
  • The possibility of a refund or equivalent credit if voting is objectively distorted by disproportionate campaigns.
  • An independent ethical evaluation of the voting system, including public participation.
  • Consideration of a “podium” voting system, allowing each voter to rank their top three favorite songs, better reflecting artistic preferences and reducing unrepresentative mass voting.

We remain devoted to Eurovision Song Contest as a unique cultural and popular event, but we refuse to be passive spectators. Our voice counts, but it should not be worth only 1/20th of another’s.

Respectfully,
