Mandatory statements on dairy and animal products of whether conditions are cruelty-free

Mandatory statements on dairy and animal products of whether conditions are cruelty-free
The Issue
Factory farming across America is affecting livestock in negative ways. People who choose to cut meat out of their diet for animal welfare purposes still face the issue of animal cruelty towards chickens on egg farms and cows on dairy farms. Even when buying certified organic or local dairy, there is no guarantee that the animals on the farm the product came from are treated humanely.
Just as the USDA has a certification for organic foods and Leaping Bunny certifies cruelty-free practices in cosmetics, we would like to see a certification that verifies whether or not animals used in the making of a product have been treated humanely. The qualifications for this certification may include sufficient space for each animal, not using milk replacers for calves, letting cows reproduce at a natural rate, no de-horning or beak-cutting, and no sending "inefficient" cows to slaughterhouses or killing male chicks.
We hope that with this certification, people may become more aware of the cruelty that happens within the dairy and egg industry, even if the product being consumed isn't a direct product of animals being killed. With this knowledge, we can encourage cruelty-free farming methods and put factory farms out of business.
