6 days ago, I emailed Sarah Koligan (the FCUSD Superintendent) about my concerns and asked her to make a policy stating that the Principals couldn't approve fundraisers with businesses with exclusionary histories and policies.
Here is her response:
"Thank you for voicing your concerns regarding the importance of supporting our LGBT students and families. As a District, we prioritize safety, understanding, and empathy for all students. We have been more intentional in providing extra support and attention to marginalized student groups throughout our District. We still have more work to do on this front and welcome your partnership in helping us meet this goal.
Our parent groups, PTAs, PTOs, and Booster Clubs, must follow guidelines set forth by the District and must consider how the product or service being provided by the fundraiser benefits students while still promoting the safety and well-being of the student body. As long as the parent group is following our guidelines, then identifying and discussing how the personal beliefs of the organization, its owners, or its shareholders could impact the fundraiser, would be something the SMS PTA would need to consider."
