This photo of the Road Of Remembrance was taken in May 2016, almost 8 years before the devastating landslides took place in January and February 2024. You can call it criminal neglect on the part of the council; anyone with a modicum of common sense could see back then that sooner or later, those trees would fall given their height, spread, and leaning dangerously over the road.. If the landslides had caused injury or worse still death, then the council would have been guilty of corporate manslaughter. You can see in later photos on our Facebook Group how in 8 years those trees had almost doubled in height, spread, and the girth of the trunk. Join us in our battle to safeguard and preserve our Leas Promenade from the loss of more sea views hidden behind tall trees and hedges, and destablised cliff tops and no doubt more devastating landslides caused by overheight and overweight trees with poor root systems.
