This petition acts as a show of support for the maximum sentence allowed under law in the case of the STATE OF FLORIDA -VS- JOHN ANTHONY FALANGO.
On October 26, 2021, John Anthony Falango, upon returning to his house after taking his dog for a walk, saw an adult bear and three cubs in his yard. His presence frightened the bears, who retreated up a tree for safety. They posed no threat to Mr. Falango or his dog, who safely returned to the security of their home. Mr. Falango then retrieved a pistol from his house and fired multiple rounds into the tree, striking and killing the mother bear, who succumbed to her injuries approximately 100 feet from the tree, and one of her cubs, who fell from the tree and died at the scene. The two other cubs were able to escape.
Mr. Falango was NOT in fear for his life and was NOT acting in self-defense. He was safe in his house. If he genuinely felt threatened, why would he deliberately and unnecessarily put himself in danger by going outside?
The bears ran up a tree, not after Mr. Falango or his dog.
Those who commit egregious acts against wildlife should be held accountable to ensure that actions such as theirs are not recurrent. If left unpunished, his crime sends a message that it is ok to break the law.
For the reasons stated above, we, the undersigned, request that John Anthony Falango receive the maximum sentence allowed under law.

On March 15, 2022, John Anthony Falango received his 4th continuance. Mr. Falango faces 17 charges in the shooting and killing of a mother bear and her cub, which left two cubs orphaned. His next pre-trial hearing is now scheduled for May 17, 2022, at 9 AM. Stay tuned for updates!
The good news is that we now have more time to make sure Mr. Falango is held accountable for his crimes. Complete the calls to action listed below.
