The app dispatch technology that should have saved the Taxi Drivers from an archaic dysfunctional system skipped over us in Florida.
It was a boon to a new breed of TNC drivers for a while. But soon TNC drivers found out the hardway what Taxi Drivers have know for years. Corporate entities that are not interested in the drivers economic security or working conditions are in charge. And they become more greedy with each passing day.
TNC drivers held protests and spoke out behind anomymous handles on social media for fear of being fired. They learned what Taxi Drivers already knew, that no one really cares about a driver for hire's plight.
Taxi Drivers remained trapped by local regulators and permit medallion owners paying crazy leases even if they owned their own cab.
TNC drivers discovered they were driving their own cars into the ground. And that TNC insurance didn't exist in Florida so they had to lie to their insurance companies. Then when TNC insurance recently came available through Foremost by Farmers it was $565 montly premiums. Way more than Taxi Insurance and impossible to afford at "Uber Pool" rates.
Taxi and TNC drivers want a system that benefits us too. Not just Corporate Interests and the Public. Disruption is great. But real innovation does not occur until the drivers win too.
All Taxi & TNC drivers have to be deregulated at the local level.
Taxi & TNC drivers that want to legally pick up street hails anywhere, personals, airport curbside hails, and park at Taxi TNC stands require the creation of a new Independent Hire Driver permit issued by the DMV if we buy 24/7 Commercial Insurance.
Drivers that get an Independent Hire Permit from the DMV are not subject to local regulations. We can stand or pick up anywhere at any Seaport, Airport, City, and County in Florida.
Minimum Limit BIL & PDL has to be level 10/20/10 when we register a For Hire Vehicle. With an Independent Hire Driver permit we can work on any TNC or Taxi App platform we choose to partner with.
Our For Hire cars can be unmarked except for minimal reflective decals issued by the DMV. And drivers may use a removable magnetic FOR HIRE taxi style top light if they choose to. A specific "HIRE" DMV licence plate and registration is a great option too.
Any Taxi & TNC drivers that want to remain in the current Taxi & TNC systems are free to do so. The Independent Hire Driver permit is not mandatory. It is simply an option for Taxi & TNC drivers to leave their current system if it is no longer working for them.
TNC drivers that stay with the current system need lawmakers to legislate the TNC Company is 24/7 primary insurer until affordable TNC insurance becomes available in Florida and the TNC driver submits their insurance certificate to the TNC Company proving they have TNC coverage for specific driving periods including "Off Duty".
