Remove Pornography From Florida Schools
Remove Pornography From Florida Schools
The Issue
Parents, it’s time to wake up and see what is happening in our schools. Scores of pornographic books have been intentionally placed onto the shelves of Florida school libraries and are featured in classrooms everywhere throughout our state. We need to unite and stand against the sexualization of our kids! Florida is rampant with sex trafficking. Repeated exposure to this pornography, particularly when approved by leaders and administrators, normalizes this behavior and sets students up to be easy targets for grooming.
Is this truly what we want for our children? Don’t we want better for them?
The Primary Problem: the Loophole
Florida Statutes currently contains a loophole (Title XLVI 847.012, point 5) which has allowed these books into our libraries. We are working with a legislator to remove this loophole, and need your support. Giving access to these materials is deemed a FELONY under any other circumstances but is allowed because of this:
Florida Statute Loophole (see point 5)
(for quick reference) (5) An adult may not knowingly distribute to a minor on school property, or post on school property, any material described in subsection (3). As used in this subsection, the term “school property” means the grounds or facility of any kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, junior high school, or secondary school, whether public or nonpublic. This subsection does not apply to the distribution or posting of school-approved instructional materials that by design serve as a major tool for assisting in the instruction of a subject or course by school officers, instructional personnel, administrative personnel, school volunteers, educational support employees, or managers as those terms are defined in s. 1012.01.
(6) Any person violating any provision of this section commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
Here is another reference which contains just a few of the objectionable books contained in our Florida school libraries. There are MANY more than this, but this will give you an idea.
Florida Citizens Alliance Report on Porn in Schools
We have disturbingly found books with detailed accounts of oral sex in libraries (available even to some of our elementary students), deviant sexual behavior, pedophilia, incestuous rape, orgies, and more. Books that would translate into R-rated and X-rated movies, including some containing graphic illustrations (please search your local school’s virtual library to see what your kids have access to- you will be SHOCKED).
School administrators and media “specialists” should not have the authority to make the decision to expose our kids to pornographic material. This is dangerous abuse of power and overstepping of boundaries and authority that is harming our children and prematurely stealing their innocence.
It’s time to make our voices heard and let Florida’s leaders know that we expect our schools to stick to the basics and educate our kids, not to indoctrinate them or corrupt them with sexual content that undermines our parental guidance. It is not within the jurisdiction of teachers, administrators, school librarians, media specialists, school boards or any school authorities to present this type of content to our children. We must take back control and demand our rights as parents. They are OUR children, and we have every right to protect them from these dangerous ideologies. Join us in demanding that these harmful, pornographic books be removed from our school libraries!!
