The Issue

This petition is from the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians, and friends of students at Mott Elementary School in Pflugerville, Texas.

The current speed limit in front of Mott Elementary is 45 mph. This high speed makes it extremely dangerous for car riders exiting the school during peak drop-off and pick-up hours. Safety is most at risk during dark winter mornings, inclement weather of fog or rain, and times of limited visibility caused by high traffic or nearby weeds.

Our goal is to have "Flashing School Zone Speed Limit Signs" on Hodde Lane in front of Mott Elementary that will be operational during school drop-off and pick-up hours. We are hoping to reduce the speed down to 25 or 30 mph during these times.

Mott Elementary's enrollment is expected to increase with the new neighborhood to the North of the school, now is the time to install safety signage to protect our child and families.

We started this petition in 2021 to reach the Travis County Commissioners office, the Texas Department of Transportations and the Judge presiding over the Commissioners Court. We will present this to them via email and in person at the weekly Travis County Commissioners Meetings on Tuesday mornings; demanding they hear our request to fix this serious safety issue affecting hundreds of Pflugerville children and families.

If the Commissioners Court declines to address our request to install Flashing School Zone Speed Limit Signs, we will send our concerns to the media, Gov, Greg Abbott and Texas Legislators.

As of August 2024, Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion has YET to respond to my multiple emails and phone calls.
