A recent article published on the ABC website titled: 'Perth residents spending 30 per cent of income on housing, as city named least affordable for renters' (published: 23/11/2024) highlights just how dire the property market in Perth has become. We as renters have had an absolute gut full putting up with years of inaction from successive state governments who have simply ignored the warning signs and not built enough affordable housing nor passed laws in parliament despite a massive budget surplus. Protecting the rights of tenants who live in constant fear of eviction if they raise concerns relating to getting stuff fixed resulting in living in unsafe dwellings needs to be our number one focus. Despite The Western Australian Cook Government stopping rent bidding and capped rent increases to yearly its still not enough to keep our citizens safe with the most important security a roof over their heads. This is a basic human right not an option! Let's make Renting fairer again with more affordable housing, safer rentals, long term leases.
