Action Alert: Support Increased Water Taxi Service from Vashon to Seattle
Ferry-dependent communities need relief. Increasing service from Vashon to Seattle via the water taxi is just one of the creative, real-world solutions that will help islanders keep moving.
State Representative Emily Alvarado has submitted a request for $3.1M in funding to expand water taxi service between Vashon and Seattle. It's critical that Vashon residents take action now to support this budget appropriation request by contacting Representative Jay Fey, Chair of the House Transportation Committee.
Take action ASAP! Call the legislative hotline at 1-800-562-6000, and email Representative Fey at jake.fey@leg.wa.gov. Tell him:
• I support Representative Alvarado’s request for $3.1 million for enhanced King County Water Taxi service to Vashon Island.
• Share your personal reasons why expanded water taxi service will help you or your family through this ferry crisis.
• Vashon Island can’t wait any longer for reliable ferry service. Disruptions of ferry service have caused harm to our communities, from stranded kids, missed medical treatments, lost wages and revenue, to missed important life events. The impacts are real, severe, and deeply affect our quality of life. Increased water tax service will bring us some relief.
Call or write between now and February 26, while state legislators are in session and making decisions about funding.
PS: We are pleased to share that King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda has submitted a formal letter of support for water taxi expansion from her office to legislative decision-makers in Olympia.
