The Issue

Living near Gibbs Sprawl Road in San Antonio, TX, I face daily challenges due to the hazardous conditions of our local streets.

Recently, while driving my mom's car down this heavily worn and uneven road, I encountered a section riddled with craters and humps. Forced to slow down more than usual due to oncoming traffic, I still couldn't avoid these treacherous patches. The impact was severe, with a loud noise indicating potential damage to the car's struts. My concern is genuine—what if something had indeed broken, especially considering it was my mothers car?!

Unfortunately, this problem isn't limited to one isolated incident. Across our area, roads are marred by dangerous dips and potholes which not only pose a threat to vehicles but potentially to the safety of all residents. Meanwhile, city resources seem overly concentrated on new construction projects and minor enhancements like sidewalk repairs, overlooking urgent road maintenance issues.

According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, deteriorating roads cost drivers in Texas approximately $6.1 billion annually due to vehicle repairs and operating costs. This demonstrates the urgent need for allocation of resources towards repairing our existing infrastructure, especially neglected streets like Gibbs Sprawl Road.

We urge city officials in San Antonio to prioritize the repair of these neglected suburban streets. By refocusing efforts on fixing roads with significant wear and tear, we can prevent further damage to vehicles, reduce transportation-related expenses for residents, and ensure the safety of all road users.

This petition seeks to draw attention to the importance of addressing immediate road repair needs—before further infrastructure is built or non-critical improvements are made. Please join me in calling on the local authorities to take swift and decisive action to ensure our roads are safe and reliable. Sign this petition to demand necessary road repairs in the suburbs of San Antonio.
