An Officer Visit

So as promised our leading officer visited the club last night. We sat with him around an hour. I gave him the paper signed petition and also a victim impact statement detailing the effects the crime had on the club, the relationship we were supposed to have with the person in question and their behaviour following the allege offences and the effect this has all had on our lives. 

Something of interest that was stated in the meeting was ‘due diligence.’  This is where there is a responsibility from the club to make sure to the best of their abilities that a committee member is honest and are operating in an appropriate manner. Due to the victim impact statement and the manner of the relationship between our former treasurer and our steward this in no way applies to us. Our former treasurer was a very close family friend so there was no reason to believe any activity would be suspicious or this person wasn’t to be trusted.
However the club this person has moved onto will struggle to bring about any charges against this person as 1) they’ve been convicted previously and 2) they don’t have the close family relationships that were in place at the time of the alleged offending like there was at The Knowl. Let us hope the club they have moved onto are using due diligence if they’re allowing them access to money. Either that or pray our former treasurer doesn’t exhibit previous behaviour. 

In any case to recognise that the club and ourselves personally are victims is massive. Even after all these years. Our officer is ‘very positive’ now that we will get some charges. He also knew that the ‘no further action’ email wouldn’t be the end of the case but rather the beginning. It shouldn’t take all the ‘screaming and shouting’ we’ve had to do but I guess that’s how it is. 

I am at this point very pleased with the latest developments. I am hoping that the next steps don’t take an age. I won’t be allowing that anyway. But I try not to get too carried away. The police have let us down so much already.
