In addition to the local media interest with the help of local councillor Martyn Bolt we have approached our local labour MP Kim Leadbeater to see if she was in a position to help us with us being in her constituency.
We can confirm Kim Leadbeater MP has now written to the Minister of State in the Home Office in charge of fraud to bring this issue to their attention. We will update here once we receive an update from them.
I’ve also submitted a new complaint regarding the whole investigation to West Yorkshire Police on the back of an email I received from our inspector outlining their decision making process and the reasons at this point the investigation isn’t progressing. Whilst the investigation isn’t progressing they’re still refusing to close the case too. This means approaching the IOPC at this stage cannot be done.
Some of the reasons outlined in this email are quite baffling ranging from the alleged has been through a successful prosecution in the past and a POCA hearing, to the change in their personal circumstances meaning a prosecution would be stressful. It would seem removing a serial fraudster from society isn’t a priority for them even though this person has managed to move onto another community led club and is currently advertising for staff to work there. The current behaviour of the alleged has been outlined in the most recent complaint with evidence and also passed to our MP. This demonstrates a pattern in the behaviour of the alleged and why it is in the public interest to test our case in court.
For myself I wouldn’t believe these reasons if I hadn’t seen the email. Obviously I can’t post the emails because they’re confidential but I have these in their entirety and they point again to the fact that West Yorkshire Police have seen this crime as victimless.
This needs to change.
