We are pleased to confirm that the petition “Fix South Dunedin’s Stormwater First – Protect Homes, Minimise Harm” has been formally accepted for presentation at the Dunedin City Council meeting on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, starting at 9.00 am at the Art Gallery in the Octagon.

As of last night, the submission included the names of 1,137 Change.org supporters, together with 207 signatures collected on paper, bringing the combined total to 1,344 petition supporters.

Thank you to every person who signed, shared the petition, collected signatures or helped make sure South Dunedin’s voice was heard. We are still collecting signatures, so keep sharing, keep talking and keep signing!

The petition asks the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council to urgently progress a practical pipes-and-pumps engineering solution for South Dunedin, including immediate stormwater and wastewater infrastructure improvements.

Public Forum speaker times will be confirmed on the day prior. Updates on the DACA Facebook page.

Tony Cummings, Deputy Chair of the Dunedin Area Citizens Association Inc will present the petition. We will provide a further update as soon as his speaking time has been confirmed. It will likely be between 9 am and 10 am on Wednesday.

We are asking anyone who can attend the Wednesday 22 July meeting to do so.  Starting at 9 am speakers usually go on after the opening statements. 

A strong turnout will show Councillors that this petition is not simply a list of names. It represents a community that expects urgent action to protect people, homes and neighbourhoods.

Getting the petition accepted is an important step, but the real goal is action. So please come along and support DACA and South Dunedin. If you have your own message, put it on a sign and bring that too. There will definitely be media coverage on the day. 

Fix the pipes. Upgrade the pumps. Protect South Dunedin.
