Growing up in Shrewsbury, skateboarding has been more than a pastime—it has been a way of life. For many in our vibrant community, the skatepark is not just a place to practice tricks and meet friends but a vital space that nurtures talent, discipline, and camaraderie. Yet, our beloved Shrewsbury skatepark, a cornerstone for local skaters, is in desperate need of repair.

The ground is rough, making it incredibly difficult for skaters of all levels to glide smoothly, hone skills, and enjoy the experience. The half-pipe, once a pride of our park, is now falling apart. These conditions not only dampen the spirit of those who have skated here for years but pose a serious safety risk, particularly for beginners who are most vulnerable to injuries.

A properly maintained skatepark is essential for community engagement, physical activity, and fostering young talent. We believe that with some focused investment and attention, Shrewsbury skatepark can flourish into a safe and inspiring environment for skaters, just as it was intended to be.

What we propose is a comprehensive revamp of the park. This includes resurfacing the entire skating area with smoother, durable materials, reconstructing the half-pipe to meet current safety standards, and installing adequate lighting for security during late hours. Additionally, with enough support, we could also enhance the park with a beginner-friendly section to encourage new skaters, making it accessible and enjoyable for all ages and skill levels.

The transformation of Shrewsbury skatepark will not only improve safety but also enrich our community's cultural and social fabric. This is a place where people of all backgrounds come together, share their passion for skateboarding, and create lifelong memories.

Join me in calling on the local council and responsible authorities to take action now. Let’s bring to life a skatepark that inspires, protects, and serves every skater in Shrewsbury. Please sign this petition to demand immediate repairs and upgrades to our skatepark. Together, we can ensure that future generations have a safe and thriving environment to enjoy the sport we love.
