Fix Sarjapur Road Now – Before Someone Pays the Price.

Fix Sarjapur Road Now – Before Someone Pays the Price.
The Issue
To:
- Commissioner, Bengaluru City Traffic Police
- Additional Commissioner (Traffic – South East)
- BBMP Commissioner
- MLA, Bangalore South
- DCP (Traffic), Koramangala & Bellandur Zone
We, the citizens of Bengaluru who live, work, and commute along Sarjapur Road, urgently demand immediate action to address the daily chaos and danger we face on this critical corridor.
Thousands of residents, office-goers, parents, schoolchildren, and essential workers use Sarjapur Road every single day. What should be a 20-minute commute now takes 90 minutes to 2 hours. It now routinely takes 30-45 minutes to get from Wipro (Old) to Iblur junction with guaranteed gridlock everyday. The road is broken-physically and functionally and without action, someone will pay the price.
- Children leave home before sunrise, returning home exhausted after crawling through miles of gridlock in school buses.
- Patients in ambulances are stuck in lanes choked by wrong-way riders, potholes, and illegal U-turns.
- Working professionals lose hours of productivity, and elderly pedestrians risk their lives just trying to cross the road.
- Women and children find it dangerous to cross the road due to lack of signals, crossings and safe pedestrian pathways
- Elderly pedestrians feel anxious and scared to use the pathways due to motorcyclists, autos occupying them or driving wrong ways
Our Immediate Demands (Within 30–45 Days)
- Conduct a Traffic Audit and Implement Smarter Traffic Management
- Existing police presence is insufficient and ineffective.
- A professional, data-driven traffic audit must be conducted to assess signal phasing, junction design, lane behavior, and choke points.
- Implement a smart traffic management plan with dynamic signal programming, junction redesigns, and real-time monitoring.
- Deploy additional traffic police or marshals during peak school and office hours to support regulation and enforcement.
- Enforce Traffic Rules with Zero Tolerance
- Crack down on wrong-side riding and driving, especially two-wheelers.
- Ban illegal U-turns and mark designated U-turn zones with physical barriers and signs.
- Stop motorcycles from riding or parking on pedestrian walkways. Install bollards where required.
- Tow and penalize illegally parked vehicles near junctions, signals, schools and bottleneck points.
- Repair Roads and Remove Obstructions
- Patch all potholes, pedenstrial pathways and damaged road segments urgently.
- Remove construction debris, barricades, and encroachments from road shoulders and junctions.
- Paint and maintain zebra crossings, speed breakers, and lane markings at high-traffic zones.
- Ensure Child and Pedestrian Safety
- Make footpaths walkable and safe near schools along the road
- Create school safety zones with speed limits, honking bans, and no-parking enforcement.
- Prioritize ambulances and school buses in any traffic re-routing or enforcement protocols.
Why This Matters
- We spend countless hours in traffic every day – missing work, worrying about loved ones, losing peace, and draining energy.
- Children are being robbed of their rest and well-being.
- Lives are at risk due to blocked ambulances and lawless roads.
- This is not a future development problem. This is a right-now governance need and can be implemented
We Are United As:
- Residents of apartment communities and RWAs on Sarjapur Road
- Parents, teachers, and schoolchildren affected by unsafe commutes
- Office-goers in tech parks and small businesses along the road
- Everyday citizens who believe in safety, order, and accountability
We want Sarjapur Road to work again....before someone pays the price.
