Roblox has abandoned its core promise of being a free, open platform for young creators by implementing severe corporate updates. Under the platform's current publishing policies, developers are forced to pay a 1,000 Robux publishing fee per game or maintain a continuous Roblox Plus/Premium subscription just to make their experiences accessible to all ages.
Worse yet, to prevent younger children from playing independent games, Roblox mandates that an experience must secure 500 unique plays from "highly engaged users" within a 60-day window to qualify for all-ages discovery. Because Roblox specifically defines "highly engaged users" as players who routinely spend real-world money on the platform, this metric heavily rewards pay-to-win developers, effectively choking out organic, free-to-play innovation in favour of corporate "brainrot" spam games. Alongside these financial barriers, Roblox relies on sweeping automated moderation that issues permanent hardware or household IP bans for minor offences, false reports, or basic communication errors—all while failing to use smart, context-aware AI to stop actual predators in chat.
