Fix Lee Chapel Road and save lives

Fix Lee Chapel Road and save lives
The Issue
In 2015 a young teenage girl passed away on Lee Chapel road. It was due to loss of control because of the bumpiness of the road. We would have never thought this would happen in our tight knit community. A few days ago on Tuesday night 2 teenage girls were found dead and one teenage girl was in critical condition now on a ventilator. This is in fact due to the same stretch of Lee Chapel road as the teenage girl who passed away in 2015. These young women had their whole lives in front of them and it was all taken away from them in a matter of minutes.
It has been requested several times by the residents who live on Lee Chapel Road to fix this road but the county has set it aside, putting civilians at risk. In 6 years 126 different accidents have occurred on this road to present time. In 2017 thirty accidents had happened on the road setting the record as the highest accident rate then the other 5 years. The road is highly used because it is one of the only ways to travel to the Burke road intersection. Due to this the road is worn out and for some reason does not have any safety precautions. You would think that they would keep the road highly maintained due to its high use but residents have been complaining about the safety of this road for years now.
The solution for this conflict is to keep the road maintained regularly by doing something big like putting in safety features to something small like filling in potholes. Safety features include signs that blink when you are to slow down at turns, road lights, safety signs before the road starts, and guardrails. Overall this accident has changed our community forever and will never be forgotten by anyone. So once we get enough signatures we plan to go to the Fairfax county’s board meeting and present this problem there for immediate action. This can happen to anyone including your sister, your parents, your best friend, or even you. It’s finally time to take action and make a change because one signature can make the biggest step in this journey. This is entirely dedicated to the 3 girls involved in the crash and our hearts go out to their family and loved ones. Stay strong everyone.
