Fix and upgrade A/C at Polo Park Middle School
Fix and upgrade A/C at Polo Park Middle School
The Issue
When I walk through the halls of Polo Park Middle School, I'm either drenched in sweat or shivering in the cold – there's no comfortable in-between. It's not just an inconvenience; it's a disruption to our education. How are we supposed to focus on our studies when the learning environment is so uncomfortable? This is a sentiment shared by many students, teachers, and staff in our school.
Our school, located in the heart of Palm Beach County, should be a place where students thrive, not where they have to bring extra clothes to adjust to extreme temperatures indoors. The frequent breakdowns of our air conditioning units are more than just a nuisance; they are affecting our health and well-being. According to the Palm Beach Post, classrooms in the district have reported temperatures soaring over 85 degrees during the day, while others experience chilling drafts that distract students from their work.
Studies by the Harvard University T.C. Chan School of Public Health clearly show that optimal classroom temperatures should range between 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit for maximum concentration and productivity. We are calling on the Palm Beach County School District to prioritize fixing and upgrading the HVAC systems at Polo Park Middle School, so we can have a stable and conducive learning environment.
In addition to improving student comfort and performance, upgrading these systems could also help reduce energy costs in the long run. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), schools can save approximately 30% on energy costs with updated HVAC systems.
We urge the district to allocate the necessary funds and resources to address these urgent issues. Other districts across the nation have successfully managed similar upgrades, leading to significant improvements in student experience and budget savings. Polo Park Middle School deserves the same level of attention and care.
Please sign this petition. Help us create a positive change for everyone at Polo Park Middle School by ensuring our A/C systems are fully operational and reliable. Stand with us by adding your name to demand immediate action from the Palm Beach County School District.
