Ironically, I tore cartilage in my knee when I stepped on a broken Rain Bird sprinkler cover playing softball at Hjelte this summer. I reported this injury to the umpire who should have passed it on to the powers that be. No, I'm not suing anyone.
I'm sure that I am not the only one who has been injured since we started this petition in early 2022. What has been done by the city to improve field conditions? Well, there's a pile of dirt in the corners of the Basin Fields yet the gopher and squirrel holes continue to get worse. Despite numerous contacts and suggestions by members of the softball community, the City doesn't care, is negligent or just incompetent. They fail to take action and hide behind walls of excuses and bureaucracy.
Personally, I refuse to play in the outfield and further jeopardize my health. It's not just running in the outfield that's an issue, it's the bad bounces too.
My suggestion, contact the Municipal Sports office or LA City Council directly and share your concerns. It seems that a petition signed by over 425 verified local citizens means nothing.
