The Issue

Canadians are facing a massive and ever growing threat. One that is not only personal but impacts the lives of every Canadian.

Lack of physical activity and other lifestyle decisions have contributed to ever increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases.

We are asking our government to make memberships for Canadian fitness clubs and purchases of fitness equipment sales tax exempt.

Fitness is not just a personal goal—it’s an economic issue. When people do not maintain good physical health, it costs our government billions in healthcare costs, and negatively impacts our economy through increased taxes and decreased productivity.

Providing sales tax breaks over the holiday for restaurants and alcohol was a nice idea, but our respective levels of government must recognize that what Canadians really NEED is help with things that provide SUSTAINABLE mental and physical health improvement.

This is a complex problem that requires many solutions but one of the easiest places to start is to make fitness & physical activity more affordable and accessible for everyone.

Exercise is the BEST and most under-prescribed medicine that usually gets overlooked!

We respectfully request our governments to IMMEDIATELY implement the SAME TAX BREAKS for all Canadian fitness clubs and fitness equipment that they did for alcohol.

Help Canadians help themselves for a stronger and more resilient Canada!!!
