The Issue

The standard is mediocrity, Fire Tomlin or sell the team, we’ve had enough !

When Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was hired in 2007, he took over an organization that already had everything in place: a good roster, strong assistant coaches, and a loyal, unwavering fan base. Since then that has not been the case, with that infrastructure supporting him early in his tenure, he was able to find success. Winning the Super Bowl in 2009 and reaching the big game in 2011. Ownership then gave Tomlin more control, allowing him to dictate signings, draft picks, and the defensive scheme. The team eventually pushed out legendary coach Dick LeBeau the last coordinator who truly knew what he was doing defensively in Pittsburgh in favor of Tomlin’s control of the defense, which has been the case for the last ten years. Since then, the scheme has repeatedly proven ineffective. Offensively, the team was carried largely by Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was also urged to retire in favor of other aging quarterbacks near the end of their careers. The recurring pattern of hiring the next assistant from within the building turned into a nightmare with Fichtner, Canada, and now Arthur Smith. With common themes of players citing poor communication, bad schemes, questionable decision making, and mediocre results, it’s time for change in Art Rooney. As fans were willing to stick it out and be not very good for a few seasons in the name of rebuilding. The results are an embarrassment to what this great franchise stands for. The bulk of the Steelers roster is on the back half of their careers and should be given a chance to win elsewhere. The Steelers stand for hard nose attitude and hard work like the Yinzers they represent. We’re the Pittsburgh Steelers six time World Champions a prestigious franchise whose fans deserve better. Sign this Petition for Art Rooney ll to Fire Mike Tomlin and move forward.
