Fire Mark Few - Gonzaga Men's Basketball Coach

The Issue

As long-time supporters and fans of Gonzaga basketball, we've seen the heights the program can reach. However, the performance of the team this year is significantly disappointing. With a record that has fallen far below our expectations, it's become painfully clear that the leadership of Mark Few, as well as his assistants, are struggling to deliver consistent results. Particularly in close games when it matters most. Despite his leadership over the past two decades, the recent performance exposes Gonzaga as the overrated program some have accused it of being. As a passionate follower, it feels like our once proud program is being reduced to being just another mid-major team.

Negative performances on court have long-term effects not only on the team's reputation but also on the morale and spirit of the fans. Gonzaga has a proud tradition and a national following that deserves better. It is in the interest of preserving this legacy and pursuing a future of excellence that we petition a change in Gonzaga’s leadership for men's basketball.

We recognize the contributions Mark Few has made to Gonzaga over the years and that he is one of the most successful coaches in the nation during that time. However, we also have to acknowledge his off the court issues (getting arrested for a DUI) as well as the deteriorating campus culture surrounding the program (the student section throwing trash onto the court during a loss to Saint Mary's College). Both events were unheard of for Gonzaga university prior to recent years. If Gonzaga is to regain its past glory and continue to grow on the national scene, as well as meaningfully compete for national championships, we believe a change must be made. Particularly as they transition into the Pac-12.

We call upon the Gonzaga University Administration to evaluate the situation critically and consider hiring a new coach for the men's basketball team. It is time to move forward. Please sign the petition if you believe in a future for Gonzaga basketball to not just compete for conference championships, but national titles. United we Zag.
