As you may be aware, crossing Firbank Road has always been challenging, particularly during peak school hours when the area experiences a high volume of pedestrian/road traffic. 

However, recent changes—most notably the implementation of the resident permit scheme—have resulted in an increase in the number of vehicles, as well as a significant rise in vehicle speeds. Additionally, this road is part of a bus route, which further complicates the situation.

I have personally witnessed several near-miss incidents, particularly involving young children. Given the school’s proximity, it is crucial that appropriate safety measures be put in place as soon as possible. A zebra crossing would provide a safer means for everyone to cross, reducing the risk of accidents and giving priority to pedestrians, especially during busy school hours.

A zebra crossing in this particular vicinity has the potential to significantly decrease the risk we face each day. Studies have consistently shown that zebra crossings improve pedestrian safety, by more than 65% at sites without traffic signals (source: Road Safety Observatory, UK). 

Given this, it is clear that installing a zebra crossing outside Oasis Academy Pinewood is necessary, even crucial, not only for my family but for every pedestrian - student, parent, or staff - who crosses this road on a daily basis.
