Finish off the storyline of Kang The Conqueror before Avengers: Doomsday
The Issue
With the release of the season 1 finale of the series Loki on July 4th of 2021, the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe met with the new Thanos-like ultimate villain of their beloved franchise; Kang The Conqueror, played by the up-and-coming actor Jonathan Majors. The character's definitive entry into the franchise was when the movie Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania released in theaters on February 17th, 2023. Despite being recieved with mixed reactions, critics and fans praised Majors' performance as the new big bad of the franchise, being excited for what the future hold for his character. Audience anticipation grew for the 2 new Avengers-movies that were on the horizon, called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, destinated to be 2 new box-office victories for Marvel Studios...
That was until March 25th of 2023. Jonathan Majors was arrested by the New York City Police Department based on allegations of domestic abuse on his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. More and more stories started coming in critizing Majors' behavior on set. With the release of Loki Season 2, Majors was praised again for his work in the roles of Kang variants Victor Timely and He Who Remains. On December 18th of that year, Jonathan Majors was found guilty and fired by Marvel Studios, leaving the fate and unfinished storyline of the character in doubt. In February of 2024, The Kang Dynasty was dropped from the title of the fifth Avengers movie, leading to speculation that Kang's storyline was definitively cancelled and another villain would lead the finishing arc of the MCU's Multiverse Saga...
On July 28th of 2024, legendary actor and former star of the franchise Robert Downey Jr. was announced to return as the iconic villain Doctor Doom, with the fifth Avengers movie now being called Avengers: Doomsday, leading to mixed reactions by fans. It was revealed that even before Majors got in legal troubles, Marvel Studios had planned to shift focus from Kang's storyline due to the negative reception and box-office disappointment that was Quantumania.
With this petition, I don't ask to bring back Jonathan Majors as Kang or change the plan of Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the franchise in the role of Doctor Doom. I just feel like that the storyline around this character set up in the Loki series and Quantumania was very intriguing, too intriguing to not finish off before you introduce its replacement. There are a lot of actors that could take on this role aside from Jonathan Majors, like Giancarlo Esposito, Damson Idris or Javier Bardem. Please just give us one last time with Kang and his variants before Doctor Doom make his grant entry in the summer of 2026.
