Fiji for Peace: Demand Withdrawal of Fiji Government's Support of Israel at ICJ
The Issue
To Fiji's Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka, DPM Biman Prasad, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua, and Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu and the Speaker of the Fijian Parliament,
We, the undersigned citizens of Fiji, are deeply disappointed in our government’s continued support of Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestinian Territories; our nation's name should never be associated with supporting genocide. Our allegiance is to peace.
We call for a re-evaluation of our government's position on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Our appeal is grounded not in taking sides, but in promoting peace, denouncing violence in all its forms, and actively contributing to a peaceful resolution
Fiji is a multi cultural nation embodying multiple faiths and beliefs. The peoples of Fiji have lived together peacefully and in harmony tolerant and respectful of each other. This is the peaceful Fiji we know. We do not support the divisive stand of the small few who claim to represent the whole nation of Fiji.
The representations made in the ICJ is not endorsed by the entire nation
Fiji has always been a nation that prides itself on its commitment to peace and justice. The current stance of our government at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict does not align with these foundational values. A neutral, peace-focused approach is needed to truly embody the spirit of our nation.
This petition aims to:
- Advocate for Fiji’s withdrawal of its current position of unequivocal support for Israel's occupation of Palestine at the ICJ regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict.
- Encourage our government to adopt a neutral stance that focuses on promoting peace and denouncing violence in all forms in the region.
We urge the Fijian government to:
- Withdraw its stance at the International Court of Justice in favor of a neutral, peace-focused position.
- Call for and support initiatives for a ceasefire, the release of all Palestinians and Israeli hostages, and other actions that de-escalate the conflict.
- Work with international leaders to facilitate dialogues and efforts that aim to bring lasting peace to the region to stop all violence against civilians.
- We strongly urge the Fijian government to use its international influence to call on Israel to allow the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, ensuring the vital support and relief reaches those in dire need
As a peace-loving nation, Fiji must embody the principles of neutrality, peace, and justice in its foreign policy. We believe in our nation’s ability to be a positive force in the international community, advocating for peace and the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
