Good news! It looks like our letters, calls, and signatures were heard and seen.
On October 26th, Rob Flack, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, posted on Twitter stating: "Residents expect stability and predictability in Ontario's rental market, and now is not the time to consider changes to this system."
I also read Bill 60, and confirmed that there is no mention of amending Sections 37 to 42 (the parts relating to Security of Tenure) of the Residential Tenancies Act in the bill.
Although the Ford government has backed off from making changes to the Security of Tenure section in the Residential Tenancies Act for now, we can't assume that they will not propose these changes again in the future. We must fight just as hard to protect our right to continue living in our homes, without the fear of becoming homeless.
We must also stay vigilant and not let any of the other amendments or proposals in this omnibus bill go unnoticed. There are still changes included in this bill that will impact the Residential Tenancies Act and municipal planning. I encourage you all to continue to write your MPPs and sign their petitions.
