Fife Nursery Changes 2020
The Issue
The changes to nursery places in Fife give no priority to returning Children. The categories are vague at best. The lack of engagement with Parents is really concerning. This is certainly not #Blueprint2020 or #GIRFEC
We are calling on all local Councillors and MSP's, Maree Todd & John Swinney to support parents and children in Fife by demanding an urgent review into the delivery of 1140 nursery provision by Fife Council.
No child in Fife should be left without a nursery place.
No parent should have to explain to their child that they cannot return to the nursery they are settled and happy in.
Parents base their childcare on school catchments. My childminder only covers the school my children go to already. The infrastructure is not in place.
Blueprint 2020 is a comprehensive document which places Getting It Right For Every Child at the forefront of this increase in provision.
Removing children from a familiar nursery setting by reducing access to those places is not GIRFEC. The legislation also places an emphasis on building trust and instilling confidence with parents to ensure that they engage with early years education - providing little to no tangiable information to parents and causing extra stress and anxiety by reducing the accessible number of spaces within school nurseries is not Blueprint 2020.
Providing greater flexibility for parents to choose multiple providers for their early years education is also a key component of the legislation - the complete lack of engagement with childminders within Fife completely undermines the basic premise of the policy.
Locally elected members are not experts in the field of early years. One would imagine that they would take guidance and leadership from the members of that committee who have trained in delivering successful early years provision when deciding whether or not to approve a model of delivery. It is incredibly unprofessional to place blame on other members of a committee on a public forum simply because you are refusing to take on board the widespread feedback from parents across Fife that this model of delivery is failing.
We ask that the decision making by Councillors Fay Sinclair, everyone on the Education Committee and Carrie Lindsay and her team at Fife Council be thoroughly reviewed and amended to ensure that children in Fife do not become collateral damage to the flawed implementation of this new model
