During the F1 2021 season, the lack of consistency by Michael Masi and current members of the stewards room when using the FIA Sporting Regulations handbook has angered fans across the world.

During the season, Michael Masi has bent the rules in order to produce more entertaining racing. F1 is about the sport, not an entertainment-driven marketing exercise!

Penalties have been given in odd situations and rules that have been respected for years are bent like plastic in order to increase entertainment. The rulebook is supposed to be set in stone and not something Michael is able to play around with. Jeddah and Abu Dhabi are prime example of his abuse of power but are only two of many races he has bent the rules in favor of entertainment.

During the penultimate race in Abu Dhabi where Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were equal on points Nicolas Latifi made contact with a barrier at lap 51 which required a safety car to be deployed. Stewards decided that no cars that has been lapped will be allowed to unlap themselves, however, Michael Masi decides one lap later that the 4 cars behind Lewis Hamilton should be allowed to unlap themselves but NOT the rest, thereby going AGAINST the stewards decision and taking into his own hands and making up rules as they go. Completely unacceptable.

The sport has gained a massive following since Netflix created ”Drive to Survive”. If those new fans get the idea that this sport is just a marketing exercise and rules can be made up as the race goes on. It will lead to people not enjoying the so called ”racing” and therefore leaving the sport!

This petition is to have Michael Masi resign from his position as Race Director as he has proven during two seasons to NOT be suitable for the position.
