Ferris Road Bridge, Dual Lanes

The issue

We, the long suffering residents and taxpayers of Melton City, have been asking our local members for YEARS to officially advocate and lobby for funding to make the Ferris Rd Bridge 2 lanes in each direction, which it so desperately needs, but we have gone unheard and/or ignored.

Now is the time to band together and push a bit harder, hence this petition.

Melton has very quickly gone from "sleepy hollow" to being a major Victorian City, with a population BOOM, yet infrastructure has not kept pace.

Granted, we have been promised level crossing removals, and if/when completed, those removals will assist greatly in traffic flow thru out the whole city, but the one remaining flow issue will still be the Ferris Rd Bridge over the freeway.

The fastest growing area in Melton City is to the south, encompassing suburbs such as Melton South, Weir Views, Exford, Thornhill Park, Strathtulloh, Cobblebank etc.

The vast majority of traffic from these areas need access to the Freeway via Ferris Rd, access to Melton Highway, and West Pines Business Centre, and in peak times especially, the lines of traffic is a nightmare, with vehicles queued for over 1km in both directions.

Add in the fact that the southern end of Ferris rd will be the home of the proposed new Hospital, and the traffic gridlock on Ferris rd will be even worse.

Sirens or no sirens, we wonder how Ambulances will get through if there is no possibility for the cars to move out of the way ?

We the undersigned respectfully ask our State Member, Steve McGhie, and our Federal Member, Sam Rae, to seek urgent funding to implement Bridge duplification on Ferris Rd Melton.

This petition of affected and concerned Residents and taxpayers of Melton City will be printed and delivered to both above MP’s once the signature count reaches 10,000.

Thank you.
