Sanctuary: refuge or safety from pursuit, persecution, or other danger.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is said to be a sanctuary for animals, yet continues to serve animal products in its café. The hypocrisy is outrageous. Their fundraising pack details the story of 2 sheep of a flock of 240 saved from the meat industry, and their website discusses several animals saved after their owners no longer wished for them to go to slaughter.

I was absolutely appalled to discover that their restaurant menu contains both meat and dairy products (and also not even a mention of vegan products!). Considering that a sanctuary is a facility where animals are brought to live and to be protected for the rest of their lives, it seems completely contradictory to their mission to be serving animal products on the premises.

There is a complete and utter disconnect between their value of protecting animals and your menu. I find it highly unacceptable that Ferne claims to be ‘a refuge for animals of all shapes & sizes’, yet in fact serves other animals as food on its grounds. Does it not seem absurd to serve one animal as food in order to raise money to save another?

I have been informed by the sanctuary CEO that ‘The decision to serve meat in our café is based on feedback from our customers, and they resoundingly wish us to continue to serve meat in the café.’ I would like to demonstrate that this is not the case and that serving animal products in an animal sanctuary is unacceptable.
