A petition link and letter has been sent to the Minister of Justice and we have Nova Scotia's first MOMS (Mothers Offering Mutual Support) meeting booked! Amazing work for week one! The MOMS group's mandate is to advocate for more humane responses to crime/treatment of prisoners and educate the public/provide information for families of incarcerated people who are looking for support. In addition we expect the petition to be supported and/or distributed this week by organizations that believe in making the kinds of changes described in this proposal. Thank you from the bottom of my/our hearts for you support in liking, sharing and,or signing this petition. A big thank you also goes out to the small group of moms (soon to be MOMS Halifax) who have shared some of their stories and have been working hard to help me get this out there. Finally, thank you to everyone who has been having conversations with people about this often times controversial, and politically charged topic, to bring it back to being about caring for all people, social responsibility, and social justice. <3
P.S. The link is an example of a hugely successful rehabilitation program based on an extended kinship model combined with an experiential learning model.
