Mandate Aboriginal Law Courses in all Law Schools in Canada
Mandate Aboriginal Law Courses in all Law Schools in Canada
The Issue
The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls presents sufficient evidence to prove genocide against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people demonstrating that human rights violations were committed and condoned by the Canadian government. As an aspiring lawyer, I believe I can practice decolonization by familiarizing and educating myself and others on the importance of being knowledgeable about Indigenous systems of law. This petition form is my formal request to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada to initiate a change by ensuring Aboriginal Law courses are mandatory across all law schools in Canada.
