Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA): Allow Hijab
Hi everyone! My name Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir, an African American Muslim, and I am the first Muslim woman to play basketball in hijab at the collegiate (NCAA) level. Playing professionally has been my goal for as long as I can remember; I couldn't attain it because of FIBA's ban on hijab. With pressures from Council on American-Islamic Relations and the US Olympic Committee, FIBA approved a two year provisional period which permitted hijab and any other religious covering players are required to wear. This August, FIBA will make the decision on whether or not they will permanently allow hijab at the national, international, and Olympic level.
With your signature, you'll help myself and other hijabi hoopers around the globe be able to continue to play the sport we love.....We need your help! Sign, share and use the hashtag #fibaALLOWhijab
